Castaway
The following is an example of how such an event may unfold. This may be as intense or relaxed and fun as you choose and locations can range from remote islands off the Scottish mainland or the UK's southern coast to National Parks in the Lake District or Wales.
Guests are marooned in a remote area, far from civilisation and with no means of communication with the outside world. Participants have to survive a night in the location. An abundance of equipment (part essential and part luxurious) is hidden in the area and teams will compete to endeavour to spend the night in as great a comfort as they can muster. The location of the equipment and manner in which it is hidden will in itself create challenging scenarios. Armed with only a map and a GPS navigation system teams will be told they have to spend the night at the location (an island, a remote castle?) and that everything necessary to provide a relatively comfortable evening can be found in the vicinity.
Teams will have to prioritise their requirements, plan their route and delegate tasks whilst under pressure of time constraints. It is not simply nightfall that will present its tensions as the opposing team will have the same map and will be searching just as frantically for the same essential equipment.
The following day teams will compete against each other in a race to escape the location and return to civilisation. They will be stripped of all money, mobile phones and maps prior to the event making this stage of the challenge extremely difficult and demanding a high degree of resourcefulness.
The entire event can be captured on tape as each team can be instructed to record a video diary throughout.
Other elements and activities that can be incorporated into the event and will work well within the theme:
Shooting, fishing (and cooking!), Horse Riding/Trekking, Mountain Biking, 4x4 Off Road Driving, Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIB), Riding, Ghyll Scrambling, Mountain Biking, Climbing, Abseiling, Canoeing, Kayaking, Sailing.
